Long_road_callingDo you have a job, career or calling? A job pays the bills. Having a career means you will spend a significant amount of time of your life working in an area the will present opportunities for growth. But a calling is much deeper.  A calling is like a splinter in your brain that you have felt all of your life. The calling can be ignored but it can’t be removed. It is part of our DNA. Just as the eagle flies back to their high perched nest, our calling continues to drive us back to what we love to do most.

A calling:

1. Gives us joy
2. Energizes us to take action
3. Makes us feel significant
4. Is not a burden
5. Impacts others
6. Comes naturally

The people who are close to you and know you well can see your greatness. They point out your strengths and talents over and over again. Some parents choose to expose their children to many nurturing experiences which results in elevating the child’s interest in a specific area. Once the interest has peaked and the child builds confidence in that area, a flame is lit. Is it possible that you have not yet had the opportunity to cultivate a strength or talent? Do you want to raise your level of play in the game of life? Spend more time alone to think about your calling and possible untapped potential. Evaluate yourself and raise the fill line of your current level of awareness. The only thing that can stop you from discovering and acting on your calling is you.

Great people and great athletes realize early in their lives their destiny, and accept it. Even if they do not consciously realize the how, the where, the what.                                                -Percy Wells Cerutty
